Vintage Glider Rally 17th – 22nd June 2024
Dear vintage glider enthusiasts,
As the Southdown Gliding Club chair, I extend a warm welcome to all owners, pilots and watchers of vintage gliders, as well as esteemed members of the Vintage Glider Club.
Our location adjacent to the South Downs provides an ideal setting for thermal soaring and, given a northerly, ridge flying along these magnificent hills. Close enough to the south coast to see the sea, we may even be able to share a sea breeze convergence from time to time, and on occasions, some gentle wave!
Join us at the Jose Weiss 115 Vintage Gliding Event at Parham Airfield , starting on the weekend of 17/18 June, with flying and socials through the week, all concluding with our traditional Longest Day on Saturday 22nd June.
We’re looking forward to reliving the golden age of gliding as historic wings take flight against the backdrop of rolling hills and azure skies, and we celebrate the legacy of Jose Weiss and Gordon England making the first soaring flights in 1909 from nearby Amberly Mount.
May the thermals be kind, the crosswinds gentle, and the memories everlasting. See you at Parham!
Warm regards,
Paul Isaacs Chair, Southdown Gliding Club
